Based in Madrid, Spain, Powerfools first convened in early 2021 to begin rehearsals for a live show featuring Mike’s songs, to be unleashed on audiences at the end of lockdown restrictions resulting from the international Coronavirus pandemic.
Lockdown went on a little longer than expected, providing the opportunity for the band to get a little tighter and a whole lot better. Mike met Pedro in 2012 at a gig. Pero and Alfonso had already played together as a gigging power rhythm section for many years previously.
Mike and Pedro started work in 2020 on a set of garage and punk standards-cover versions. However, this soon morphed into Powerfools, a power pop quartet, performing the songs of Mike Stanley and a few carefully selected standards of this particular musical genre.
Carlos Gonzalez Santamarta joined the band in early 2021 after returning from a period living in London, where he had played with several live acts, including the garage rock band, Albino.
